Hurricanes Coaches for 2008:

Head Coach Ambur Humphrey

My whole life the water has been my second home. I started swimming when I was a little munchkin in my Grandaddy's pond, and soon after joined a year round team. I have swam on a year round team in Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Virginia. I am so excited to be the Head coach for the 2007 swim season, yet I have been coaching summer league swim teams for 5 years! My favorite and best stroke is butterfly!  I am not all chlorine! I totally love jelly beans and peanut butter, country music along with older music, dancing in the rain, Karaoke, being outside in the sun, watching movies, Texas Longhorns, and being creative and fun! My all time favorite perfume is Tommy Girl and sunflower! Currently I am waiting for my prince charming to beat up all the losers I seem to date, ha ha! I am a senior at UGA/GSW campus where I am involved in Tennis, club swimming (when I am not too busy),  SGA, ZTA, and BCM. Being the oldest of 4 girls I know how to be responsible and loads of fun all at once!!! My favorite all time saying is "don't sweat the small stuff cause life is too short to not live it to the fullest!"

Assistant Coach  Brandon Hendrickson

I started swimming when I was 12 years old, and have been on a team for 8 summers and for 2 years at Colonial Forge High School.  My favorite stroke is freestyle - long distance.  My fastest swim was in high school - I improved by a full minute on the 500 and wasn't even tired when I finished!  I am a triathelete, and also used to play basketball.  My other interests are racing - I'm currently saving up for a car so I can autocross with my friends.  I currently attend NOVA College and just finished my 2nd year.  My favorite food is steak (I'm part Texan).

Assistant Coach  Jonathan Hooe

I have been swimming competitively since I was four years old. I swam for 13 years in the RSL with the cWo Dynasty, better known as the Chancellor Blue Dolphins. I swam year-round for 11 years – 8 years with QDD and 3 years with the RAYS. I also swam for three years in high school – my freshman and sophomore years with Chancellor High School and my junior year with Riverbend, serving as team captain. My favorite strokes are freestyle and breaststroke – I still hold a Hampton Oaks pool record in the 50-meter freestyle! My heyday in swimming was when I was 14 – I was ranked 4th in Virginia in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. My favorite swimmer of all-time is Ed Moses for two reasons – he was an electric breaststroker, and he also attended the college I attend – the University of Virginia. WAHOO-WA! When I’m not around the pool I remain a very active person – I am a gym rat and love working out and playing pick-up basketball. I am an avid fan of all sports – especially college basketball and football. I am also a fan of the WWE – Shawn Michaels is my boyhood idol who I have still yet to meet. I love American Politics and am majoring in that discipline at UVa with a double-minor in Economics and History. I am a very picky eater – I don’t like ice cream but can’t get enough sweets – if anyone wants to get out of a set at practice just bring Coach Jon some fruity, fruity, delicious, fruity, delicious, fruity Skittles. I drink sweet tea like it’s going out of style and thoroughly enjoy a good steak or pasta dish. Let’s see, what else… I am an avid Rod Stewart fan – I’m going on a date with my momma to see him in concert (for the second time) this August at the Nissan Pavilion! I’m very excited to be returning to the Hampton Oaks Hurricanes and I’m looking forward to a fun, rewarding, fun, safe, fun, time-slashing, FUN season of defending the Battlefield Division Dual Meet Championship. Go Hurricanes!

Junior Assistant Coach Kate Hoioos:  I'm 16 years old and a rising junior at North Stafford HS.  I'm the oldest of 4 (have 1 sister and 2 brothers).  My Dad is retired from the Navy - we have lived in 4 states and Japan.  I've been swimming for HOST since 2001 and also swam on QDD and STAT Swim Teams and lettered in varsity swimming at North Stafford.  I was scared to do swim team the very first year and could barely swim one length of the pool!  My favorite type of food is Chinese.  My favorite stroke is Breaststroke.  Favorite colors are blue and green; favorite TV show is Grey's Anatomy.  My favorite subjects in school are History and Biology.  I'm deathly afraid of heights!  I LOVE to travel, and went on a 6 week RV cross-country trip with my family.  I also play the clarinet in the Big Blue Marching Band at North Stafford and love to play sports.  I want to be a Nurse when I grow up.

Junior Assistant Coach Heather Humphrey:  I was 8 years old when I started swimming, and have been on a swim team for 7 years including my North Stafford High School Team.  Breast stroke is my favorite stroke, and my favorite swimmer is Amanda Beard cause she is amazing at breast stroke!  I also like playing tennis, field hockey, running, and will attempt to do golf next year.  I like collecting shoes, watching movies, and I love my big sis!  Favorite foods are fried chicken, fajitas, twix, and milky ways.  My favorite color is green, and I love frogs - fake ones, that is :-)

Junior Assistant Coach  Catie Schmitz:  I started swimming when I was 8 years old, and have been swimming for 8 years on summer, year round and my North Stafford High School swim teams.  My favorite strokes are breast stroke and the IM.  At Age Group Champs this year, I had my best time in the 100 yd breast of 1:11.68, winning my heat!  Natalie Coughlin has been my favorite swimmer since I watched her on TV, plus she is very humble.  I also like gymnastics, dance, volleyball, and soccer; shopping, fashion, movies and cooking.  Mint chocolate chip ice cream, honey dew mellon, and kiwi are my favorite foods.  I love coaching and kids!!  I have a younger sister who doesn't swim yet and lots of family.  I like colored pens and the color pink (which I wrote this bio in).  I kind of collect purses (Vera Bradley is one of my favorites).  Swimming is definitely a HUGE part of my life.  And just like Kelly Reightler, I am a crazed High School Musical fanatic!

GO HURRICANES!
